The Winter Wonderettes is the Christmas-themed sequel to the 50s and 60s ‘jukebox’ musical the Marvelous Wonderettes. The original focusses on four best friends who are called in at the last minute to perform as the entertainment at their prom. Their group, The Marvelous Wonderettes, perform a series of 50s girl group songs with accompanying choreography. Highlights of the production include audience participation (Missy is in love with Mr. Lee, played unwittingly by an audience member in the front row), a 2nd act reveal (set at the ten-year reunion in the 60s) of Suzy’s pregnancy, and BJ’s ‘chimpmunk cheer’ antics.
In this sequel, The Wonderettes return with a gig to perform at the annual ‘Harper’s Hardware Holiday Happening’. When Santa turns up missing, the girls must use their talent and creative ingenuity, plus some great holiday tunes like “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town”, Jingle Bell Rock”, “Run, Rudolph, Run”, “Winter Wonderland” and 20 other seasonal favourites, to save their holiday party. A great combination of Christmas spirit, ‘60s nostalgia and even more audience participation than the original, this show is a perfect way to kick off the holiday season with the whole family.
